As a result of federal legislation, pharmacy copayments for prescriptions available through US Family Health Plan have changed starting February 1, 2018.

Copayments for medications have increased

Copayments for medications have increased, regardless of whether you purchase the medications through Home Delivery (maintenance medications), at our Brighton Marine or Hanscom AFB pharmacies, or at a retail pharmacy (one-time or urgent medications).

These increases affect all members except for dependent survivors of active-duty service members and medically retired beneficiaries and their dependents, who will continue to pay the earlier (2016/2017) rates. All other members pay the new copayments.

Please note that the prescription copayments also apply to members who have Medicare Part B. While members with Medicare Part B do not have copayments for medical services (such as doctor's visits, physical and occupational therapy, emergency-room visits, and so on), they do have copayments for prescriptions.

Home Delivery, Brighton Marine and Hanscom Pharmacies

Maintenance medications (up to a 90-day supply)

Generic: formerly $0, now $7

Brand-name: formerly $20, now $24

Non-formulary: formerly $49, now $53

 

Retail Pharmacy

One-time or urgent medications (up to 30-day supply)

Generic: formerly $10, now $11

Brand-name: formerly $24, now $28

Non-formulary: formerly $50, now $53

Earlier changes

The following changes, which are also the result of federal legislation, were recently announced. These changes, which do not apply to US Family Health Plan members age 65 or over, include: 

  • Consolidation of the TRICARE North and South regions into TRICARE East while TRICARE West remains mostly the same, with new contractors administering these regions. (Although US Family Health Plan is part of the TRICARE system, we will continue to operate separately and independently of the regional contractors.)
  • A new TRICARE Select program. 
  • An annual Open Enrollment period that will take place from November 13 through December 11, 2017 for 2018. 
  • A Plan Year that runs from January 1 through December 31
